Attendance Policy
Every year our school works carefully to monitor student attendance. It is very important that your child arrives on time and attends school on a daily basis. It is the parent(s) / guardian(s) responsibility to notify the school office when your child will be absent or tardy. Absences - Please call the school office (562) 944-6128 the day your child is absent with an explanation as to why your child is absent and send a note when he / she returns. You may also use e-mail to verify absences. Please make sure this information is on the note or e-mail: Date, student’s first and last name, room number or teacher, date of absence, reason for the absence, and the name of the person verifying. Please send e-mail verifications to mcdonnell_cindy@nlmusd.k12.ca.us with “attendance note” in the subject line. If your child has a medical appointment, please obtain a note from the doctor / dentist for the school office. The doctor / dental office may also fax the note. (562) 944-8188. Vacations - If your child is going on vacation while school is in session, please let the school office know the dates he / she will be gone. Also, please let his / her teacher know in advance so they will have time to prepare work for your child to work on while he / she are gone. NOTE: Your child’s attendance record will be marked as a Parent Violation for all vacation days. If your child will be gone for two weeks or more, he / she will be checked out of the school and you will have to re-enroll when you return. Unverified Absences - All unverified absences will become Truancy after 10 days. Please verify with the school office. Tardies - If your child arrives to school after the start bell, he / she is tardy. Please have your child sign in at the school office before going to the classroom. If your child arrives to school 30 minutes or more after the start of school, to excuse that tardy, the office will need a doctor / dental note or phone call from the parent stating that the child was ill. After 8 tardies, a note will be sent home and District SART will be notified. Taking Your Child Out Of School Early During School Hours - Your child must be signed out in the school office by parent / guardian or other person listed on the student’s emergency record. If your child has a medical appointment, please send a doctor / dental note to the school office when your child returns to excuse your child’s partial day absence (please note: this partial day absence will be included on your child’s report card with the tardies). In order for us to achieve our academic goal, we ask for your support so that your child’s school experience will be a positive one. Thank you. |
